“Our relentless message is being heard- you are important and we want to hear your articulate voice.”
-Frederic Locke, Renaissance Arts Academy, Portland, OR

Expeditionary Learning schools expect all students and teachers to do their best work. When teachers do the best work of which they're capable, it's natural for them to expect their students to do the same, and there's integrity in the expectation. It's not unusual for students to do six or seven drafts of a paper to make it as good as it can be. Galleries where student work is presented, and the practice of students routinely making presentations to audiences that go beyond the classroom and beyond the school both help motivate students to do their very best.
